Many people ask me about animal communication and if they can communicate with their own animal companions on a deeper level than they’re used to. This past Friday, I was on my way to assist Athena, a 12-year-old Siberian Husky, to transition back to spirit. Back to Spirit is the term Sunvet uses for our euthanasia procedure. As I checked in with Athena to let her know I was headed her way, I became aware that not only did she know I would be there on that afternoon, she also knew what I would be doing in detail. She knew I would be giving an injection that would sting a bit then would have her relaxing and pulling away from the discomfort in her body. She also knew I would give her a second injection to help her leave her body.
I can only imagine one or both of her people, Lisa or Gina, had sat with her and shared with her their previous Back to Spirit experience relating to a previous pet. This ‘full disclosure’ to a beloved pet by their person doesn’t happen very often. Most clients are reluctant to describe to their animal friend a procedure that has such finality and grief associated with it.
I would encourage all of you to take the time to ‘describe’ to your animal friends — in word pictures — scenarios you wish to have them understand. Let’s say you’re taking them to the veterinary office for surgery, which includes a drop off at your veterinarian’s office and your pending RETURN. This can be visualized with special attention and emphasis put on the RETURN visit to pick them up after the procedure.
To do this, close your eyes and say your pet’s name to yourself three times. Allow for a picture of your animal friend to come to your ‘minds eye.’ You must know and trust that you are actually connecting with them at this time. Visualize the entire scene of your drop off, saying good bye, then being led into the back of the clinic by happy clinic employees. Then paint a picture of your return in the lobby of the clinic and their joyous reunion with you.
Your four legged friends are direct in their communication. They love and insist upon directness from you. While you are communicating your story to your pet, leave some quiet time after just in case they have something to share with you!
Shine on,
Dr. Laurel
