How much is a new patient appointment?
The fee for a new patient appointment is $180 for adult animals over 6 months old. The fee for puppies and kittens is $120. Fees for diagnostic work, labs, supplements, and additional services are calculated separately.
Can the new patient intake appointment be done over the phone or Skype?
The NC Veterinary Medical Board requires that an animal be seen in-person in order to establish a patient-doctor relationship, so we no longer offer phone or Skype appointments for new patients. After we have met your dog or cat, you may be able to schedule phone or Skype appointments for them, depending on the reason for the appointment.
My dog or cat is due for their annual wellness exam and vaccines. Can I bring him to Sunvet?
Absolutely! We encourage clients to bring their cats and dogs in one to two times per year for a wellness exam.
Can I get my dog or cat’s prescription filled at Sunvet?
Yes. We have a well-stocked pharmacy for our patients who need pharmaceuticals. If you are not currently a patient, we will need a prescription from your current veterinarian in order to fill any prescriptions.
I have two animals. Can I bring them at the same time?
It’s best to bring your animals separately. We prefer to see one animal at a time so that we can ensure they each receive the individualized attention they deserve. If you are traveling from far away or absolutely cannot bring your animals separately, we ask you to please bring a friend to help keep your additional dog/cat occupied.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please let us know at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment time, so that we can fill your appointment slot with another animal in need.
Appointments cancelled less than 24-hours before your appointment time are considered “Same day Cancellations” and will be charged a cancellation fee equal to half the scheduled appointment fee.
Why are you a perfume and cologne free environment?
We ask that all clients please refrain from wearing any perfume, cologne, or scented moisturizers when visiting the clinic in order to honor all of our two-legged and four-legged visitors who have fragrance sensitivities, including Dr. Laurel.
My animal is very fearful and/or aggressive. Do you do sedation?
Quite frequently, animals who have shown fear and aggression in other situations are more at ease here due to our small, laid-back environment. We also adapt to your animal’s needs and respect their boundaries by practicing low-stress handling. Please call us about your particular dog or cat and their behavior tendencies. In some situations, we will prescribe medication or natural supplements prior to an animal’s appointment.
Do you work in conjunction with my current vet?
We have wonderful working relationships with many conventional practices in town. Since we do not perform surgeries, x-rays, ultrasounds, or other imaging, many of our clients maintain a relationship with a conventional practice or hospital to complement the specialized, holistic care they get with Sunvet Animal Wellness Clinic as their primary veterinarian.
Does Dr. Laurel do house calls?
At this time, Dr. Laurel does not do house calls or in-home Back to Spirit procedures.
Can I use online or third-party pharmacies to order medicine?
Yes, you can. There is an annual per family prescription fee of $15 to process online and third-party pharmacy orders.
Do you accept pet insurance?
We do not file insurance, but we are happy to provide any paperwork needed for you to self-file. Full payment is due when services are rendered.
Can I return an item if my dog/cat did not use it?
We are happy to accept returns for unopened and unexpired products. For opened products, we can issue a 40% refund. Unfortunately, we are not able to accept returns for expired products.
What methods of payment do you accept? Do you offer payment plans?
We accept cash, check, credit, debit, and Care Credit*. Payment plans for existing clients are subject to pre-approval with our office manager and extended on a case-by-case basis. All financial arrangements must be made prior to the appointment.
*subject to credit approval.
Do you accept walk-ins or emergencies?
We are by appointment only, and we do not have the space or equipment needed to accommodate emergency situations. If your dog or cat is injured or needs emergency care, we recommend taking them to MedVet Asheville or another veterinary hospital.
Where are you located? Do you have parking?
We are conveniently located in downtown Asheville at 251 Haywood Street, next to Sow True Seed. Yes, we do have parking!
