Keri joined the Sunvet crew as our full-time vet assistant in March 2020. She’s the one who helps Dr. Laurel take great care of your furry friends by assisting with treatments and doing things like blood draws, nail trims, and cold laser.
We sat down with Keri to learn about her interests outside of work and how she got started in the veterinary world.
How did you get started in the veterinary world?
I was raised on a small farm in New Jersey. I absolutely loved being with those animals any chance I could. Whenever the veterinarian would come visit the farm I was right there next to him, questioning everything he was doing and why he was doing it. Once I graduated high school I moved to Florida and started working with a wildlife rehabilitation center, which sparked my love for birds of prey and other wildlife. I love working with new species and learning their behavior traits and unique personalities.
What is the sweetest animal-relationship moment you’ve ever witnessed?
One of our miniature horses had a birth defect and was treated as an outsider by the other horses. However, one of our goats and the horse (Bo) became best friends. They would gallop in the fields together, eat grass together, and even cool off in the barn on a hot day together.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
Anything outside. Usually hiking, gardening, or playing a sport of some kind.
If you could travel anywhere (real or fictional) where would you go?
Since you added fictional places in there, Hogwarts 🙂
What is your guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure is a reality show on MTV called The Challenge. It’s filled with horrible drama, but the actual physical challenges they have to do hook me every time.
What’s your favorite thing about your pup, Nergal?
She is hands down the best cuddler I’ve ever come across. Head on the pillow, body under the blanket, little spoon, kind of cuddles.
What’s the strangest talent you have?
I’m not sure if this is considered a talent, but until recently, when I was bored I would go on a specific website and test my geography knowledge (nerd, i know.) I quizzed myself so often that I was able to find the location of almost every country in the world.
If you could be any mythical creature, which would you be and why?
I would be a mermaid so I could hang out and swim with all the creatures of the sea. And so I could have a cool tail.
What’s the best part of your job?
Lovin’ on all of the animals that come into the clinic. 💜
