Yay! Thanksgiving! One of my favorite holidays!
This morning, as I awakened with Bee — my part Siamese domestic short-haired cat — tapping on my face to remind me she wanted her early morning snuggle under the covers, I realized what my Thanksgiving blog post would be. What are our dogs and cats grateful for? I gave the question to Bee, to see where she would take it. Immediately, I began to receive mental pictures of the favorite things in her life.

Says Bee: “I give thanks for the perfect ‘scoogle’ around the ears over my eyes and along my mouth. Of course, I love the variation on the theme, held in Laurel’s arms like a human babe, being doted on and luxuriating in the most heavenly neck and upper back massage. I love my little personal door carved out of her rather large, human-sized door.
“I adore my 5:00 am morning skirmishes into the great out of doors, taking in the coolness, the changing light and the skittering of all the other creatures just starting to stir. I cherish my place at Laurel’s sleeping side on the softest of blankets. I take care to make many ‘biscuits’ in this blanket before I curl up with just the right amount of contact, feeling the energy between us.
“I adore my Paleo chicken and turkey, and don’t let me forget rabbit. I am drooling just thinking about my daily smorgasbord! I give thanks to the great outdoors, where I spend hours puttering around, snoozing, and of course, stalking insects and shrews. I adore Laurel. She is my ‘person.’ She is my job. I am here to help her to slow down and to remind her to check in with herself in every moment so she may learn to follow a path that always has her spirit expanding.”
Thank you, Bee! I have so much love and gratitude for you in my life!
I will close with two wishes. The first is that all of you reading this blog have a blessed Thanksgiving. A special hug to all of Sunvet Animal Wellness Clinic’s clients and to their special furry companions. Enjoy this exquisite holiday time with family and friends before the December frenzy is upon us.
The second is that each of you get quiet with one (or each) of your four-legged friends. Tell them what you love about them, then stay quiet for five more minutes with your eyes closed. Ask them what they are thankful for, and be willing to trust any feedback you receive.
Shine on!
