- “Want some holiday spirit? We have plenty to share!” –Sunvet patients Nikki and Bobby Collins
Love and light to all of our clients and blog readers shifting into this blessed holiday season! Sometimes we forget the blessings of the holidays amid all the stress that can accompany them. Your beautiful four-legged friends are wondering, “Why all the stress? We’re supposed to be having fun!” This holiday, what can we learn from our dogs and cats?
If we asked our dog and cats how humans could get into the holiday spirit, they’d share tips like these:
- If you’re celebrating Christmas, every time you pass your Christmas tree, take a moment to enjoy how beautiful it is and breathe in the scent.
- Even if it’s cold, go play outside with your friends!
- Make an advance New Year’s resolution to let go of your regrets—animals don’t often hold onto the past.
- And another resolution… to let go of old grudges. Dogs and cats don’t have them.
- Remember to take plenty of cat naps during this season that can be stressful.
- However welcoming you are to guests, turn it up five notches. Think of how excited your dog is to have company!
- Snuggle on the couch with your loved ones.
- When planning your menu, think of others, but make sure that you make your own favorites, too (to be enjoyed thoroughly)!
- Un-busy yourself—you don’t find dogs and cats saying “yes” out of a sense of duty.
- Enjoy the moment you’re in: dogs and cats know that this holiday will never be exactly repeated, so now’s the time to enjoy everything that’s going on!
These beings of unconditional love, these furry angels, show up in our lives and teach us to re-center our relationships on love and joy.
Most importantly, your dog or cat reminds you how to care for other beings without any thought for yourself. Unconditional love is not a loan needing to be repaid, but a string-less gift of the heart. They speak their truth directly and stand by you without judgment.
Our animals teach us to open our hearts to love and joy. As we send this to others, we allow more warmth to enter into our own lives, our neighbor’s lives, and even into the lives of people we’ve thought of as enemies. We begin to see, as living beings, we are all connected. As we embrace love and joy, we are shifting the collective consciousness!
Take time this holiday season to chill out, to listen to the rustling of leaves, the birds, the four-leggeds, the kids, the partner, the friend or the neighbor. Listen with your heart and focus on that loving and joyful consciousness expanding.
Hearts expanding and shining on!
