Veterinary homeopathy is founded on the proposition that symptoms seen in a patient are the result of an imbalance or disharmony in the life force, the innate self-healing mechanism of the body.
Rather than dividing the symptoms into separate diagnoses and prescribing a different medicine for each one, as in conventional medicine, the veterinary homeopath seeks to find the common cause of all the symptoms and identifies a single medicine which will bring the entire patient to health and wholeness.
Homeopathy works from the assumption that the body generally knows best how to respond to illness and that it only needs assistance in its efforts, not resistance against those efforts. The “similar” remedy reinforces the body in the direction of healing.
Here is what Dr. Laurel has to say about discovering homeopathy…
“I have to say, years ago I became increasingly disenchanted with practicing purely conventional veterinary medicine. Many animals treated with this model of medicine were prescribed either antibiotics and/or corticosteroids to get rid of certain symptoms of dis-ease. More often than not, when the course of medication finished, the same symptoms returned, quite often with a vengeance! In my search for alternative methods to address these same symptoms, I came across a marvelous medical philosophy and practice: Homeopathy.”
There are more than 2,000 traditional homeopathic remedies available, and they address a wide range of chronic and acute conditions. Basically, for any of the ailments that modern dogs and cats suffer, from viruses to bacterial infections, from respiratory disease to kidney dysfunction, there’s a homeopathic remedy, and often there are several remedies, each addressing different expressions and nuances of symptom patterns shown by the patient.
To top off their benefits, homeopathic remedies are made from natural sources, such as plants, animals, and minerals. They are environmentally friendly and cruelty-free! They are an example of Mother Earth providing all that is needed for us, and our furry friends, to be in balance.
