We kicked off 2020 by adding an exciting new service to our holistic veterinary toolbox, anesthesia-free teeth cleanings. We are offering the service four times this year, with upcoming cleanings in April, July, and October.
At our first day of anesthesia-free teeth cleanings in January, we were able to help 11 dogs and cats get cleaner, brighter smiles and fresher breath. But that’s not the only benefit of good oral hygiene for dogs and cats.
A consistent oral hygiene regimen and regular cleanings, including anesthetic and anesthesia-free procedures, helps your furry friend’s teeth and mouth stay cleaner and can limit his risk of periodontal disease, which is linked to systemic diseases of the kidneys and liver, heart disease and lung disease.
During the cleaning, the dental technician creates a calm, low-stress environment and uses specialized techniques to safely restrain the dogs and cats. She is trained to identify body language that conveys pain, discomfort or stress, and she adjusts to meet each patient’s needs. Our January patients tolerated the procedure well, and the day went smoothly for humans and animals alike.
The results were impressive, so we wanted to share a few before and after photos with all of you.
First up is Sunvet Patient, Jacques.
Jacques is an adorable 13.5 year old Jack Russell Terrier. His owner knew a dental cleaning was warranted for this sweet little dude since he had been diagnosed with grade 3 periodontal disease. However, she wanted to avoid the risks involved with using anesthesia on him due to his age and since he has had negative reactions to anesthesia in the past.

Next is another Sunvet patient, Noodle.
Noodle is a 6 year old Maltese mix. She was a perfect candidate because of her gentle and trusting demeanor and her very mild tarter buildup.
